TaborStreet℠ is looking for a Director of Safety & Compliance who leads and leverages a team to expertly execute our strategic objectives in the areas of safety, safety culture, compliance, policies/procedures, training, and change management to ensure achievement of enterprise excellence. This individual will serve as our lead subject matter expert on technical standards, best practices, etc. in all areas of safety, OSHA/MSHA and DOT compliance. The Director of Safety & Compliance will ensure we continue to have well-designed processes for safety governance and risk management (OSHA, MSHA, DOT & FRA). Additionally, working closely with senior management and individual business units to ensure that safety and compliance considerations are assessed, developed, and appropriately integrated into their overall strategies. We are seeking someone who actively leads an internal customer service philosophy that offers expertise, support and value to our internal business units, free of “gotcha” moments.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Builds and leads a collaborative, high performing team of safety/OSHA/MSHA and DOT compliance experts who provide value across our organization by leading with a foundational philosophy that safety is a company priority, not because of regulatory or compliance factors but because we value our employees and their individual safety.
  • Creates and fosters a team “brand” balance of being both technical compliance experts and service-based business partners. Designs programs with a focus on compliance but also with the end user in mind, ensuring processes/procedures are practical and are created with customer input. Listens to the voice of the customer and reviews internal customer feedback and insights to drive continuous service improvements across the team.
  • Directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, FRA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Ensures completion of required OSHA and MSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Develops, updates, and proactively manages the company’s safety programs (and previously mentioned policies/procedures) for employees at all levels. Identifies best practices and leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices. In coordination with business unit leaders, plans and implements programs to develop managers, supervisors, and employees in work related safety situations. Identifies third party training resources and coordinates safety training classes, when appropriate/necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and conformance to internal standards. Ensures proper safety and DOT compliance programs are in place, properly maintained, and internally audited at regular intervals. Conducts and/or reviews internal and external safety and compliance audit data (DOT, MSHA, FRA, etc.) related to our specific operations. Reviews the FMCSA’s SAFER company snapshots monthly. Reviews internal Trimble reports/data regularly. Conducts regular safety audits of company. Reports findings and recommendations and determines corrective action where indicated. Verifies that measures have been implemented.
  • Acts as subject matter expert in this space. Provides expert level technical advice on issues, trends, and compliance updates and changes that may or will impact the organization. Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to managers and employees regarding safety behaviors, properly utilizing PPE, compliance initiatives and other safety/DOT related items. Supports local managers/business units as needed in development of/execution of their quarterly communication meetings.
  • Creates, communicates, executes, measures, and provides reporting on initiatives that support achievement of enterprise safety and compliance strategy and goals. Collects data, prepares safety KPIs, to include trend based and predictive analysis. Provides regular analysis and information/data on trends; makes appropriate recommendations regarding identified risk exposures within or to the company. Produces consolidated reports on the risk profile, key risks, and emerging risks. Provides regular written and/or oral reports to senior leadership on the safety program’s successes and challenges.
  • In partnership with local business units, co-leads investigation of accidents, near miss incidents and occupational injuries to determine root causes, installs preventive measures and manages return to work activities. Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Compiles and submits reports required by insurance carrier and regulatory agencies.

Preferred Experience:

  • 10 years of demonstrated safety leadership experience with demonstrated proficiency
  • 5-7 years of experience working with regulatory agencies (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc.) and managing associated compliance, on a local, state and federal safety and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to socialize ideas, analyze data, make recommendations, and create team understanding and agreement with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to present, lead training, provide technical advice and guidance to groups of all sizes
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Certifications (preferred)
  • CSP or CDS certification/qualification preferred
  • TSI certification (DOT cert)
  • Active OSHA 501 or 511 certification
  • OSHA Outreach Certification (preferred)
